Councillor Alanna Vine and Council officers walked along the route now almost completed around Bramhall Green and up Bridge Lane as far as Hillcrest Road on Friday 2nd July.
These were the proposals Alanna put forward:
- Install black metal bollards along the edge of the route between Hillcrest Road and Womanscroft Bridge to stop cars parking half on and half off the widened pathway. This is not only dangerous for cars exiting Hillcrest Road but Bridge Lane itself is not wide enough to allow cars parking in this way.
- Double yellow lines to be put round the corners of Headland Road and Walmer Drive.
- The entrance to Headlands Road to be widened to 10 metres. At the moment the proposals only allow a 6metre access which would be difficult for coaches going to and from the Rugby Club. (Councillor Linda Holt has already agreed this with Nick Whelan).
- Another car parking space to be immediately created outside the entrance to Happy Valley by moving the lamppost.
- Further clear up and tidy all overhanging vegetation along the cycle route from Valley Road to Bramhall Green roundabout.
- Install metal bollards behind the bus stop on the roundabout where the cycle route from the park comes out to stop cyclists going straight into the bus stop. Also to improve the surrounding area with shrubs and general landscaping.
- To extend the double yellow lines on Fir Road opposite the shops so that cars can only park on one side of the road, apart from the layby further up.
Council officers will take Councillor Vine's suggestions back and consider them. All of Councillor Vine's suggested improvements are designed to improve the flow of traffic in the area, provide increased parking, improve the local environment and improve overall safety for drivers and pedestrians.
If there are any other improvements you believe could assist, please do not hesitate to contact either Councillor Vine directly, or email us on [email protected].
