Councillors from Labour, Conservatives and the Independent Rate Payers did not support the Liberal Democrats proposal to take £600,000 from the Tackling Climate Change funding.
Disappointingly, the Liberal Democrats proposed slashing this vital and important funding along with taking a further £2m from the Economic Recovery Investment funding. This targeted funding is key to helping businesses recover and get the economy growing.
Their budget amendment wanted to spend money which supported our environment and local economy on more Council Officers to manage yet unspecified “projects”
Commenting Conservative Group Leader Mike Hurleston said, “We need to invest our climate change and recovery investment funding where it is most needed in the Borough. The Liberal Democrats have previously tried to use Ward funds to pay for a company to run a railway train for a week. The Liberal Councillors currently have allocated Ward funding they have not spent over the past two years, yet they now want more.
"We want the funds spent where they are most needed. Wasting over £300,000 on more officers is not the best use of residents’ money.”
