LINK, the UK’s cash machine and cash access network, have today recommended a Banking Hub for Bramhall after Mary Robinson MP’s campaign to maintain access to cash and banking services in her Cheadle constituency. This marks LINK’s 100th Banking Hub recommendation.
Following the swathe of bank closures across Cheadle in recent years, and the constituency’s last bank in Heald Green due to close this Summer, concerns have been raised around the lack of banking facilities and the impact this has on our High Streets for both consumers and local businesses.
Last year, Mary Robinson MP started a campaign for a Banking Hub to open in Cheadle constituency and has raised the issue with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in Parliament and held talks with LINK to make the case for a hub.
Following her campaign, supported by local residents and businesses, LINK have assessed whether communities across the constituency qualify for a Banking Hub using their stringent criteria and are now recommending that one should open in Bramhall.
Banking Hubs, which are similar to a traditional bank branch, but available to everyone, allow customers of any bank to withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments and carry out regular banking transactions. They also provide private spaces where customers can speak to community bankers from their own bank for more complicated or specialist matters.
Commenting on today’s announcement, Mary Robinson MP said:
“It’s brilliant news that LINK have recommended Bramhall for its 100th Banking Hub!
Having raised the issue of local bank closures with the Prime Minister in Parliament last year, I have been in discussions with LINK as part of my Banking Hub campaign. So, I am delighted by today’s announcement.
Local businesses and residents have keenly felt the effect of the wave of bank closures across our area. This hub in Bramhall will reinstate services, allowing customers to deposit and withdraw cash, pay bills, and, importantly, speak with community bankers from their own bank.
I’m pleased that my positive work with LINK, supporting my constituents and listening to their calls for restoration of a high street banking service has resulted in this welcome announcement.”
Mary Robinson MP will continue to work with LINK and Cash Access UK in delivering a Banking Hub in Bramhall and looks forward to the Banking Hub opening once suitable premises are found.
